Why aren’t they giving community service? I assume there must be some trash that needs picking up or a food bank that could use them to sort and box food? While I agree with the open container law, but being poor, or homeless, is not a crime. It sounds to me like they are being jailed for not being able to pay the fine. Community service would benefit everyone.

they should let them serve 2 days in jail for failure to pay the fine, then let them out. saves money all the way around.
