Egyptian President Mubarak Sends In His Thugs

Earlier, witnesses said the military allowed thousands of pro-Mubarak supporters, armed with sticks and knives, to enter the square. Opposition groups said Mubarak had sent in thugs to suppress anti-government protests.

One of our correspondents said the army seemed to be standing by and facilitating the clashes. Latest reports suggest that the centre of the square is still in control of the protesters, despite the pro-Mubarak supporters gaining ground.    Al Jazeera

Funny thing about the timing of the violence that has broken out between the anti-Mubarak protesters and the pro-Mubarak protesters.

"The events of the last few days require us all as a people and as a leadership to chose between chaos and stability and to set in front of us new circumstances and a new Egyptian reality which our people and armed forces must work with wisely and in the interest of Egypt and its citizens.   Mubarak

Up until Mubarak gave his speech, there was very little chaos going on. The looting that had been going on was reportedly being done by his own police forces in many instances. The majority of the violence which is now happening did not begin until the pro-Mubarak forces took to the streets and started the continuing violent intimidation of the other protesters. This is a dictator’s only option when being faced with his over-throw.

America Takes A Break From Stupidity…

….and I say that only because the latest cable news network ratings are out and it appears that the biggest ratings loser is FoxNewsChannal, with one of their flagship idiots,Glenn Beck, leading the way.

TVNewser says that from January,2010 to January,2011 Fox was down –21% in its total viewers and was down –31% in younger viewers.

While that it good for those of us who know how ignorant and stupid this country has become, Fox still is the #1 network on cable, beating MSNBC and CNN combined.

Speaking of MSNBC, it was the only news cable network to show growth, beating out CNN for the 7th straight month in January, 2011. This was even though the network sacked its biggest star, Keith Olbermann, whose viewership had rising by 6%.

Overall, MSNBC was the only cable news channel to grow year-over-year: +23% in Total Viewers and +25% in younger viewers (total day, Mon-Sun).

It now appears that the Egyptian military has sided with dictator Mubarak as it has issued a call for citizens to end the demonstrations against Mubarak. Now we are even seeing pro-Mubarak demonstrations in Cairo, and the military fears that both sides of the groups may turn violent against each other.

The declaration was a clear shift in the stand of the army, which gave a tacit endorsement to the movement on Monday by saying it would not use force against protesters, and that they had legitimate demands.

Representatives of his National Democratic Party immediately began making public statements trying to project the image of the regime as Egypt's sole path back to stability and security after the disruption of normal life caused by eight days of protests, and a wave of looting and arson that gripped the country over the weekend after the government pulled police from the street.

The army's message to the demonstrators had a more conciliatory tone, appealing to young protesters to stand down "out of love for Egypt."

"You have started coming out to express your demands and you are the ones capable of returning normal life to Egypt," military spokesman Ismail Etman said in an address on state television. "Your message has arrived, your demands have become known."

Immediately after his statement, state television ran a scrolling message reading: "The armed forces call on the protesters to go home for the sake of bringing back stability."

Did you ever wonder if your voice is actually heard by political leaders after you sign a petition or share your personal story on issues like Social Security?

Last week, PCCC members delivered over 50,000 notes directly to Senator Harry Reid -- thanking him for boldly opposing cuts to Social Security. We also read notes from PCCC members like you out loud.

At our event, Senator Reid said "it's become the official position of the Republican Party to privatize and dismantle Social Security" -- which he called "the most successful social program in the history of the world."

The Majority Leader then vowed to do everything in his power to keep Social Security "off the table." Reid's words in the PCCC video made news today in the Wall Street Journal, the Atlantic, TPM and Huffington Post. This is big news, as many politicians on both sides of the aisle have refused to take this position.

PCCC members Larry Fleisher, Gloria Spottswood, and David Klutts were also eloquent voices at the event. We know their stories and others were heard! You can see them on the video too.
